The sun was shining and so were our star bowlers at the Browns Bay Bowling Club Championships held over the weekend. Strong fields in both the Open Women’s Fours and Open Men’s Pairs made for some great match-ups, with post section play on the Sunday seeing some outstanding bowls played. In the Women’s Fours, the Judith Seager skipped team of Anne Dorreen, Gail Dick and Rhonda Preston beat the Elaine McClintock combination 18-8 to book their place in the final, while Paulette Mytton’s Four of Wendy Jensen, Tracey Wilson, and Shona Chambers had a great battle against Audrey Ansell’s team, winning 24-18 in their semi final. In the finals, the Seager team was always in control and in the last end Seager dragged the jack for two shots to close out a comprehensive 20-7 win and take the title. On the nearby rinks, the Men’s Pairs semi finals provided two very contrasting games. John Walker and Colin Rogan faced off against the red hot combination of Kerry Chapman and Brent Turner but Walker and Rogan never let their opponents get in the game, storming to a 21-4 semi final win. Meanwhile, Scott Evans and Rory Sowden had a titanic battle against Brad Reichert and Brian Wilson, with the gridlock only broken in the second last end when Reichert bagged 3 shots and picked up another two on the final end to win 21-16. The finals provided another top spectacle, with both teams neck and neck until the last three ends. Some superb bowls by Walker on the 17th end saw the duo pick up 3 shots to take a 14-9 lead into the final end. They added a further shot on the last end, winning the match 15-9 and adding yet another club title to their resume’s. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you for some great bowls |
