Newsflash - Bowls North Harbour takes National title
Bowls North Harbour are the Men’s National Under 8’s Intercentre Champions for 2015-2016.
The team, which includes Browns Bay Bowling Club players Rory Soden and Grant Keats, won the national title with a win over Taranaki in the final held in Wellington this afternoon.
A commanding 21-6 win from the fours combination and a gritty 21-18 singles win from Soden (who never lost a game over the two days) saw North Harbour take victory and be the first winners of this latest addition to the Bowls New Zealand Calendar.
The full Men’s team was: Singles – Rory Sowden (Browns Bay); Pairs – Walter Howden (Takapuna) & Garry Banks (Mairangi Bay); Fours – Bevan Smith (Takapuna), Grant Keats (Browns Bay), Errol Koroi (Orewa) and Duane McDonald (Riverhead). Travelling Reserve: Don Ambrose (Mairangi Bay). Managers/Coaches: Graham Dorreen & Bruce Shand (Browns Bay), John Jannsen (Takapuna), Ian Hardy (Mairangi Bay).
The Bowls North Harbour under 8’s Women’s team were knocked out on the first day on Saturday with Canterbury taking out the title over Auckland in post section play today.
